Dr. Juan Luis Valero
Independent Fisheries Research Scientist
Dr. Valero joined CAPAM in 2013 as a Research Scientist and is currently an Associated Research Scientist. Juan has worked on projects related to the Good Practices in Stock Assessment Modeling Program, White seabass assessment and Education and Trainning in fisheries stock assessment and fisheries management. His recent work includes stock assessments for petrale sole, white seabass, dorado/mahi-mahi (talk, paper), tropical tunas (bigeye, yellowfin and skipjack), swordfish and lingcod, spatial bigeye tuna stock assessment modeling (talk, paper), as well as management strategy evaluation (MSE) work for dorado/mahi-mahi (talk, paper), sablefish (talk, paper) and tunas, including the effects of climate change on alternative management strategies (talk, paper). Dr. Valero also organizes and leads fisheries stock assessment courses, stakeholder dialogue/communication workshops and trainning in fishery management strategies in the US and internationally. Dr. Valero is a member of the ADMB Foundation and the ADMB Project Core Team.
