Stock Assessment Course in Argentina
Stock Synthesis (SS) Course in Argentina, February 17-21, 2014
This course was organized by CAPAM Research Scientist Dr. Juan Valero, Dr. Melissa Haltuch (NOAA), Dr. Richard Methot (NOAA) and Dr. Billy Ernst (UDEC, Chile). This is part of CAPAM's Education and Training Program. The course was taught at Instituto Nacional de Investigacion y Desarrollo Pesquero (INIDEP), Mar del Plata, Argentina during February 17-21, 2014. Funding was provided by the National Marine Fisheries Service International Science Strategy (NMFS ISS).
The course was attended by 26 INIDEP staff that received instruction and demonstrations on SS model capabilities as well as worked on implementing SS model configurations using data for fisheries that they are responsible for conducting stock assessments. Course program can be accessed here and course lectures can be downloaded here. Participant's work resulted in SS model configurations of different complexity for 9 stocks:
- Merluza comun (Merluccius hubbsi, Common hake-Northern stock)
- Merluza comun (Merluccius hubbsi Common hake -Southern stock)
- Besugo (Sparus pagrus, Red Porgy)
- Centolla (Lithodes santolla, King crab)
- Vieira patagonica (Zygochlamys patagonica, Patagonian scallop)
- Abadejo (Genypterus blacodes, Pink cuskeel-Ling)
- Corvina rubia (Micropogonias furnieri, White croaker)
- Pez palo (Percophis brasiliensis, Brazilian flathead)
- Merluza de cola (Macruronus magellanicus, Patagonian grenadier)
